TheTRA-1-60monoclonalantibodyreactswithapluripotent-stem-cell-specificantigenexpressedonundifferentiatedhumanembryonicstem(ES)cells,embryonalcarcinoma(EC)cells,andembryonicgerm(EG)cells.TheexpressionofTRA-1-60onhumanEScellsisdown-regulatedupondifferentiation.TheTRA-1-60antibodyrecognizesaneuraminidase-resistantcarbohydrateepitopeexpressedonpodocalyxin,amemberoftheCD34-relatedfamilyofsialomucins.Podocalyxinisatransmembraneglycoprotein,whichhasbeenimplicatedinthedevelopmentofaggressivenessinavarietyofcancers,includingbreastandprostatecancer.
